FAQs
What is oil pulling and how does it work?
Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic oral care practice that involves swishing oil in the mouth for an extended period, typically 5 to 20 minutes. The mechanism is straightforward: oil has a natural affinity for the lipid membranes of bacteria. As you swish, the oil binds to bacteria, toxins and food debris throughout the oral cavity, including areas a toothbrush can't reach, along the gumline, between teeth, and across soft tissue. When you spit the oil out, you remove what it has collected. Studies on coconut oil pulling specifically have shown reductions in Streptococcus mutans (the primary cavity-causing bacterium) and improvements in plaque and gingivitis scores. Our Oil Pulling uses a blend of coconut oil and sunflower oil with peppermint essential oil, formulated to make the practice easier and more pleasant than traditional oil pulling with raw coconut oil.
What are the benefits of using Georganics Oil Pulling?
Georganics Oil Pulling offers a variety of benefits for your oral health and overall well-being:
- Reduces Plaque and Bacteria: The coconut oil helps remove harmful bacteria from the mouth, reducing plaque buildup and preventing gum disease.
- Promotes Fresh Breath: Oil pulling helps eliminate bacteria that cause bad breath, leaving your mouth feeling refreshed.
- Improves Gum Health: The oil helps soothe gums, reduce inflammation, and support healthier gum tissue.
- Whiter Teeth: Regular use of oil pulling can help reduce surface stains and naturally whiten teeth over time.
- Detoxifies the Body: Oil pulling is believed to support the body's detoxification process by drawing out toxins that may have accumulated in the mouth.
What makes coconut oil effective for oil pulling?
Coconut oil contains a high proportion of medium-chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid, which has well-documented antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When coconut oil interacts with saliva and the enzymes in your mouth, it partially breaks down into monolaurin, a compound that disrupts the cell membranes of harmful bacteria. Our formula combines coconut oil with sunflower oil, which adds linoleic acid and vitamin E, and peppermint essential oil for its natural antibacterial action and fresh flavour. The result is an oil blend that's effective at binding bacteria, comfortable to swish, and leaves your mouth feeling genuinely clean.
Is oil pulling with Georganics safe for sensitive gums and teeth?
Yes! Georganics Oil Pulling is formulated with gentle, natural coconut oil, which is safe for sensitive gums and teeth. The oil's antibacterial properties helpprotect your gumswithout causing irritation, making it a great option for daily use, even for those with more sensitive mouths.
Can oil pulling help with bad breath?
Yes! One of the key benefits of oil pulling is its ability to freshen breath. Coconut oil helps remove harmful bacteria and toxins from the mouth, which are often responsible for bad breath. By incorporating Georganics Oil Pulling into your daily routine, you can experience long-lasting fresh breath and improved oral hygiene.
How do I use Georganics Oil Pulling Mouthwash?
Take 1 to 2 teaspoons of the mouthwash and swish it gently around your mouth. Start with 5 minutes if you're new to oil pulling and work up to 15–20 minutes as you get comfortable. Don't gargle, just let the oil move naturally around your teeth and gums. When you're done, spit into a bin (not the sink, as oil can solidify and clog pipes). Then brush your teeth as normal. The best time for oil pulling is first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking, this is when bacterial load in the mouth is highest. You can also use it before your evening brush. There's no need to rinse with water afterwards; just brush.
How is oil pulling different from regular mouthwash?
The biggest differences are time, mechanism and impact on your oral microbiome. Conventional liquid mouthwashes work in 30–60 seconds using alcohol or chlorhexidine to kill bacteria on contact, but they kill beneficial bacteria too, which can disrupt the balance your mouth needs to stay healthy. Oil pulling takes longer (5–20 minutes) but works mechanically: the oil physically binds to and removes bacteria rather than killing them chemically. This means it reduces harmful bacteria without wiping out the protective species. Oil pulling also doesn't cause the dry mouth that alcohol-based mouthwashes are known for. It's a slower, gentler approach, but for many people, the results are more sustainable.
How often should I oil pull?
Daily oil pulling delivers the best results, most studies showing measurable benefits used a daily protocol over 2 to 4 weeks. Once a day, ideally in the morning before brushing, is the standard recommendation. That said, even 3 to 4 times per week can support your oral hygiene routine. The key is consistency over intensity: a regular 5-minute practice will do more for your oral health than an occasional 20-minute session. If you're just starting out, begin with shorter sessions and build the habit gradually.
