Five Simple Ways To Succeed This Veganuary

A new decade has begun making this the perfect time to challenge yourself, maybe you’ve been considering taking the plunge for a while or perhaps you just want to switch to a diet which incorporates more plants. Whatever the reason for doing Veganuary, 2020 is the year to dive in!

Why try Veganuary now?

Current predictions by climate scientists indicate that by 2050 we will see a rise in temperature of 3C above pre-industrial levels. Veganism can lead to a drop in emissions by around 70%. So switching to a plant-based diet can actually help us lower our carbon footprint.
If you’re keen to give Veganuary a go but don’t know where to start - never fear - we have 6 top tips to help you begin your journey.

1. Fail to Prepare. Prepare to Fail.

Before you embark on your month of plant-based eating, get some recipes (or better yet a whole meal plan) together. Vegan meals are structured slightly differently to the meat and vegetable combinations we’re used to seeing on our plates. Think about making more ‘one-pot’ meals like chille, curry and pasta dishes. 
There are an abundance of vegan recipes available at our fingertips, online or in recipe books. Get creative, learn new things and find brand new flavour combinations.

2. Join a Local Vegan Facebook Group

Research whether a local vegan group exists in your area. Chances are the group will have useful posts all about local restaurants that offer vegan options, reviews of vegan products, and maybe even a meet-up where you can connect with like-minded people.

3. Play the Field with Plant Milk

Recent years has seen a boom in the market for plant milk. Many different options have become available, such as soya, oat, almond, rice, and hemp. The key is to not give up when first trying plant milk. You may find that you like oat milk in your tea or coffee but prefer almond milk for cereal for instance.
Have fun with it, and offer the ones that aren’t for you to a friend or family member to try.

4. Accidentally Vegan

Discover the wonders of accidently vegan foods. Did you know Oreos are vegan? How about ready rolled shortcrust and filo pastry? There are thousands of accidently vegan brands out there and some may just be your favourite snacks.

5. Try, Try and Try Again

When making any change in your life you’re likely to slip up every now and then. We’re all human. Be kind to yourself and forgive the slip ups. Focus on the successes and things will get easier.

Bonus Tip: Don't forget to check your beauty products

Going vegan isn't all about diet. Check the back of your beauty products, like make-up, skincare or oral care, to see if they are vegan. If they're not, simply use up the existing product and choose a vegan option on your next purchase.
